Baja Weekend

Jenna and I enjoyed the great November weather riding our Baja mini bike. Spent a few hours in Schwenksville riding at my sisters house. They have a great big field on the back of their property - perfect for riding!
I picked up the used Baja back in October off of Craig's List. The bike has a 6.5 HP / 196cc motor and goes pretty fast. We've had alot of fun with it so far this fall!

25 miles on the Perkiomen Trail

Craig and I rode 25 miles on the Perky Trail this morning. Started out chilly, but warmed up quickly. The leaves have not reached "peak" color yet - plenty of great fall riding ahead!

Early Fall Detecting

Spent a few hours in the woods detecting this morning.
The ground is so dry from the lack of rain - made it hard to dig up targets. Found one Indian Head Penny - bad shape, cannot make out the date.

Another Great Creek Adventure

Jenna and I walked the Skippack Creek for about a mile today. The water felt great on this 95 degree weather. We caught all kinds of creek animals, including a big bull frog.

Early August on the Perky

Had the day off - I put the kayak in the perky for a few hours today.
Fished from the dam all the way to the bridge and caught a few small bass. The leaves are just starting to show a slight bit of color change and a few have already dropped into the creek. Fall is coming.

Hot Summer Upon Us

Most of July has been well into the 90's. Too hot for detecting and the fish are not bitting much. Jenna and I did manage a trip to the canal and she caught a few sun fish - she is really doing great with her casting and will soon move up to a spinning reel.. Many people enjoying the canal and bike path today - we saw a few kayakers and people in a canoe.

Fishing on the River

Jenna and I went on a river fishing trip this morning. We caught a few nice smallmouth bass and enjoyed the cool water. We also gathered some river stones to place in our flower bed at home - a small memorial to Tasha.

Goodbye to a Dear Friend

Yesterday we had Tasha, our 13 year old Labrador retriever, put to rest. Her health and quality of life had declined over the past year – so we felt it was time. She died peacefully at 5:10 PM.

Thank you Tasha…
for accompanying me on all those fishing trips to the river.
for the hours and hours of Frisbee tosses.
for making me laugh – even when I didn’t feel like laughing.
for keeping me company when I was sick.
for all the great memories.

This is a small video I created in honor of our beloved Tasha...

Early 1900's Fruit Jar Along the Perky

Fishing along the Perkiomen Creek this morning I came across a bottle buried along the embankment - I removed it carefully from the dirt and cleaned it up when I got home. It turned out to be a "Smalley, Kivlan, and Onthank" Queen fruit jar - dated 1909 and 1920.

A few finds from World War II era

I dug these old eye glasses and a nice "Victory - World Peace" token from a creek bed today. Weather was perfect for detecting - not too hot.

First Kayak Trip of the Season & Rainbow Trout

First trip out with the kayak this season. The water level is a bit lower than I expected, especially after the winter we've had. I paddled up to the steel bride and drifted back to the launch - caught three nice rainbow trout using a spinner.

Chilly Spring Bike Ride

The temperature was a chilly 49 degrees when we started out this morning, and warmed to almost 60 as the day went on. Ken D, Jenna, and I rode the Evansburg loop of the Perkiomen trail - stopping to see all the horses along the way. Great day, and a great 9 mile ride.

The Frog Princess

Back to the creek this afternoon for some fishing and frog catching...

Trout Season Opens

Trout season opened this weekend and I had a great day of fishing.
I located a stretch of the Skippack Creek with nobody around.
Caught 11 trout, all nice size - released all (after taking pictures). Here are a few...

Finally Green

Finally, Spring has arrived after a long and snowy winter - most snow ever recorded was in 2010. Plants and trees are starting to pop and turn green. Nice short 10 mile ride on the Perky trail this afternoon - the temperature was perfect.

Frozen Creek & Lead Seal

Detecting along the Perkiomen this morning. The creek was frozen in many places and the ice made a loud "cracking" noise as the water attempted to flow underneath. Hard digging in the frozen ground, but I did come up with a small lead seal from a Stassfurt Germany. Most likely from a fertilizer bag or container. Date somewhere between the late 1800's and early 1900's.

First Ride of 2010

We rode 20 miles on the Perkiomen trail this morning. Nice brisk ride to Schwenksville and back. Ice formations were a great picture opportunity. Looking forward to Spring when the temps warm up.
