Beautiful October Day - Great for Detecting

Beautiful day for detecting - temperature in the mid 60's.
Bob and I went out for a few hours this afternoon - I dug two nice coins. A 1903 Indian Head Penny and a 1908 V Nickel...

1834 Large Cent

Went detecting for a few hours this morning.  Dug a nice 1834 Large Cent - first one I've found in a while.  This is my 14th Large Cent found.  It is in fair condition and most of the detail can be made out.

Labor Day Digging

A few Labor Day 2011 finds - including a California Fig Syrup and an old Fan Flame spark plug. I haven't posted all summer - been so busy!  Fishing has not been good - not sure why.  Lots of rain in August including Hurricane Irene.

Memorial Day 2011

Did some Kayak fishing with Chris today on the Perky.
First time out for Chris with his new setup.

Spring is in full swing!  Ken and I did an 18 mile bike ride on Saturday morning and a little bit of creek time with Jenna on Sunday. Caught a few nice trout, but no frogs yet – the water is still chilly.

Early April Bottles

Trout season opened today for Southeastern Pennsylvania, but I opted to do some bottle hunting in my favorite spot.  Came away with some very interesting glass and a few metal items.  Most impressive is the turtle shaped match safe in very nice condition.
It has an Asian symbol on the back of the shell - I am still researching its meaning.

March Mercury Rising

First trip out detecting in a while. It was a long, cold, and snowy winter. Spring is in the air and I figured I would get back into the woods before the weeds take over. Dug two Mercury Dimes in one of my favorites spots - one 1917 and the other 1920.

Winter Project - Spring Is Coming!

My winter project – purchased (bartered) off Craig’s List from a guy up in Pottsville back in January. I honestly don’t think it was EVER cleaned – I took it apart piece by piece – cleaned it and rebuilt - some parts had to be fabricated. Practically re-wired the whole thing – many connectors were broken or corroded – used wire loom to wrap all the wires nicely. Spent a few bucks on a new seat cover, back wheels (used – again off Craig’s List), throttle control, and new grips. The engine is in very good shape – I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plug, and cleaned the entire engine as best I could. I still have to finish the front and rear racks (re-paint), change the gear oil in the final drive, replace the fuel lines, and touch up paint a few places on the frame. Waiting for warmer weather to take it for a real test drive.

Anyway, here are some before and after pictures…
